PETA offers reward in Athens animal abuse case

People for the Ethical Treatment of animals is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the location of an abused dog as well as the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the dog’s attacker. Athens-Clarke County police say it happened on April 13, when a man was caught on a neighbor’s home security camera dragging, kicking, and beating a dog. It happened in the 100 block of Lavender Road near Jefferson Road in Athens.

From PETA…

The footage shows the abuser wearing what appeared to be a dark hoodie and light-colored shoes, and the dog appears to be of medium to large build, possibly with black and white markings.

Police are investigating this incident as a case of felony aggravated cruelty to animals, and PETA is hoping for help from the public in order to ensure this dog’s safety and justice for his abuser.

“This clearly terrified dog was kicked, smacked, and dragged across the ground in a merciless attack,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information to come forward so that the abuser can be held accountable and separated from his victim, who may well be in need of urgent veterinary care.”

Tipsters should contact the Athens-Clarke County Police Department at 706-613-3345.
