A Jackson County woman is killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Athens: Violet Sprinkles was 79 years old, from Nicholson, a passenger in an SUV that wrecked over the weekend on Jefferson River Road. Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says five people—two from Jefferson, two from Commerce, and one from Braselton—have been arrested on theft charges.
