SUV repeatedly rams Gwinnett police vehicle before officers open fire

Police investigation

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A man is in custody following an officer-involved shooting near Stone Mountain Park after police say he repeatedly rammed a marked patrol vehicle with an SUV.

The incident happened Tuesday near the intersection of Rockbridge Road and Stone Drive.

According to Gwinnett County Master Police Officer Brock Marks, the driver of an older-model SUV struck a police vehicle multiple times, pushing it through the intersection.

“The suspect vehicle continued ramming and pushing that patrol vehicle through the intersection until the patrol vehicle came to rest along a curb,” Marks said.

During the incident, one officer managed to get out of the patrol vehicle while it was still being struck.

“One officer was actually able to exit the patrol vehicle while it was still being struck; that suspect vehicle then nearly struck that officer, we then fired rounds at that suspect vehicle,” Marks said.

Police say no officers were injured during the encounter.

The driver was later located and arrested. He is currently being questioned by investigators.

Authorities have not announced any charges in connection with the incident.
