Skeptical Supreme Court hears appeal from DA Gonzalez

An appeal from the Western Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney receives skepticism from Georgia’s Supreme Court Justices.

Clarke and Oconee county DA Deborah Gonzalez argues that top prosecutors do not have to comply with the state’s open records laws - similar to immunity arguments made by Fulton County’s District Attorney Fani Willis in relation to her election interference case against Donald Trump.

Georgia’s Supreme Court Justices heard arguments on an appeal from Gonzalez, who is accused of ordering staff to delete texts related to open records requests and for not releasing information. The Gwinnett Daily Post reports attorneys for Gonzalez allege constitutional immunity from civil penalties from cases like the one they are appealing.

A ruling on the case is expected in the coming months.
