Smoke from western wildfires reaches NE Ga

Smoke from western wildfires began creeping into northeast Georgia Thursday. Dozens of wildfires are burning, including one that is consuming more than 600 square miles in Oregon. Haze from the mid-Atlantic and North Carolina is now pushing south into Georgia.

Here in North Georgia expect some haze in the sky with a milky look in some areas plus extra orange and red for the sunsets, sunrise and the moon overnight are the results of the wildfire smoke from Canada and the Western U.S.

Air quality alerts for many cities to our West and North but not so bad for Metro Atlanta breathing with most smoke aloft.

As Alaska state Climatologist Ben Noll points out the smoke from Wildfires in Russia/Asia and North America circulate across the entire hemisphere carried by the jet stream with smoke reaching the skies of Scandinavia, United Kingdom/Spain and Africa.
