University of Georgia students, staff, and faculty—anyone with a UGA ID card—can get into Stegeman Coliseum for tonight’s National Championship Game viewing party. Stegeman doors open at 6:30 for the game that kicks at 7:30 in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Georgia Bulldogs are taking on the TCU Horned Frogs in the College Football Playoff finale.
One of the UGA football program’s most popular personalities will miss Monday’s national championship game.
Uga X, the team’s bulldog mascot, will miss the UGA-TCU showdown because of distance.
The flight is too far for the nine-year-old dog also nicknamed “Que,” the Seiler family of Savannah, Ga., told the website. Instead, he’ll be watching the game on TV.
Uga X was in attendance when the Bulldogs played in Los Angeles during the 2018 Rose Bowl. In that game, UGA defeated Oklahoma 54-48 in overtime in a semifinals playoff game.
For the first time in a long time - and maybe ever - UGA head football coach Kirby Smart’s father won’t be with him at a College Football Playoff game.
Sonny Smart, Smart’s dad and his coach at Bainbridge High School, is dealing with some medical issues and did not make the trip to California for Georgia’s appearance in its third CFP Championship game. The AJC reports he also was unable to attend the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl semifinal Dec. 31. Kirby Smart played for his father at Bainbridge High in southwest Georgia before making his way to the University of Georgia. Sonny Smart coached for 23 years at Bainbridge and Rabun County High Schools before retiring.
