Three shootings in two days in Athens, one deadly

A Winterville man is dead after a shooting on Athens Road: Athens-Clarke County Police say 48 year-old Willie Jewell was killed, allegedly by 26 year-old Cedric Jones of Athens. Jones was arrested, charged with murder, and booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail. Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating shootings on Zebulon Drive and Viking Court in Athens. Two shooting victims were wounded, with one of them said to be in critical condition.

On February 12 th, 2024, at approximately 8:53 AM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Athens Road. Responding officers found the victim, Willie Antonio Jewell, 48, Winterville GA, deceased at this location from a gunshot wound.

The suspect was located at the scene and taken into custody. Cedric Robbie Jones, 26, Athens GA, was arrested and charged with Murder.

On February 11th, 2024, at approximately 5:32 PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 120 block of Viking Court. Responding officers located a subject with gunshot injuries. Officers rendered lifesaving efforts until Fire and EMS arrived, at which time the subject was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

On February 11th , 2024, at approximately 10:20 PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Zebulon Drive. Witnesses advised that a vehicle had left the scene after being shot at, and a passenger in the car had sustained gunshot injuries.
