The Georgia Governor’s race is over and done, with Athens Republican Brian Kemp remaining in office. Now people both parties are looking ahead to 2026.

Brian Kemp can only serve two terms as Governor, so the field will be wide open. UGA Professor Charles Bullock tells Atlanta News First a big contender would be Burt Jones who just won the race for Lt. Governor. Saying, historically people in that position in Georgia have open made to leap to the higher officer. A second strong choice for Republicans would be Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

For Democrats, it could be the two Stacy’s. Bullock says Stacy Abrams may try a third time, and right now her likely challenger would be State Representative Stacey Evans, who challenged Abrams for the nomination back in 2018.
