ATLANTA — Mailing a package through the U.S. Postal Service will temporarily cost more as new price increases take effect ahead of the peak holiday shipping season.
The temporary increases apply to Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select. Depending on the service and package, customers could pay anywhere from 50 cents to more than $20 extra.
Heavier Priority Mail Express packages could cost up to $20.80 more, while commercial rates for the same service could increase by as much as $18.20.
Priority Mail and USPS Ground Advantage packages weighing 26 pounds or more could cost up to $3.90 more.
USPS says the temporary adjustment is needed to cover additional handling costs during its busiest shipping season.
The Postal Service increased its daily package processing capacity to 88 million during the 2025 holiday season and delivered more than 9 billion packages.
The temporary higher prices will remain in effect through Jan. 17.
