Varsity update: sale price disclosed, new restaurant plans revealed

Developers who purchased the property that was once home to the Varsity restaurant paid $8.5 million for the property that sits at the corner of Milledge Avenue and Broad Street. The Varsity closed after decades in Athens in June and will reopen new restaurants in Oconee and Barrow counties. A mixed-use development is planned for Broad and Milledge.

As one door closes, another opens! Since 1932, The Varsity has been proud to serve our neighbors in Athens, first on College Ave. and, since 1964, at our West Broad St. location. We are incredibly grateful for the many years of support from our customers in Athens and are excited to break ground soon at our new locations in Athens and Bethlehem, Ga. We look forward to serving those communities for years to come!
