A Walton County woman has been convicted of a DUI crash that killed one of her sons and seriously injured another.
The Walton County District Attorney’s Office says Jasmine Chandler was found guilty of vehicular homicide based on reckless driving. She was sentenced to 25 years with eight years to serve in prison.
According to the Monroe Police Department, Chandler, then-34, was involved in a crash in December 2017 that caused her son, 12-year-old Sean Thomas, to be ejected from the car and die. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Chandler’s 11-year-old son was also in the car during the crash and suffered serious injuries.
Georgia State Patrol says Chandler was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe and ran a red light on South Madison Avenue before crashing into a Honda Odyssey. There were five people in Chandler’s car at the time of the accident.
Chandler and the other passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
GSP charged Chandler with vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, and a seatbelt violation for her son.
She is currently being held in the Walton County Jail.
