White House: no apology to Laken Riley's accused killer

The White House is walking back an apparent apology from President Biden, saying it was not an apology at all. Biden did say he should have used another phrase when he called accused Laken Riley killer Jose Ibarra an “illegal.” White House Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Dalton says “there was no apology” in the President’s weekend remarks in an interview on NBC.

Jose Ibarra, an undocumented alien from Venezuela, is in the Athens-Clarke County jail, charged in the February 22 murder of the nursing student whose battered body was found on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Two of his brothers are also in custody in Georgia, accused of being in the US illegally. Diego Ibarra was arrested in Athens with what authorities say was a fake green card. He’s in federal detention near Macon. And Argentis Ibarra was, at last report, in an ICE detention facility in Stewart County.
