The Georgia Department of Public Health says Athens’ coronavirus death toll holds steady for another week at 15. However, with increases in testing come increases in case counts, up to 381 confirmed cases since tracking began in March. Oconee County now has ten deaths among its 133 cases of coronavirus; Oglethorpe County has had 81 cases and seven deaths; Madison County has recorded 78 cases and four deaths; Jackson County has seen 300 cases and seven deaths from COVID 19.
The Athens-Clarke County government is launching what it is calling its Ready, Set, Go Safely campaign, designed to offer guidelines on safely reopening segments of the local economy that have been closed since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Franklin and Madison County high schools were among those that had in-person graduation exercises for high school seniors over the weekend: graduation ceremonies that were scheduled for May were delayed because of concerns about coronavirus. Oconee County is looking at commencement exercises for its graduating Class of 2020 sometime in July.
The Hall County Government Center in Gainesville reopens to the public today. The building had been closed since March after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Atlanta United soccer team confirms two players have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days. The MLS team resumed individual workouts last month. This month the team will continue no-contact training, with more testing of players and team staffers.
The Georgia Department of Public Health says the state’s confirmed coronavirus case count is approaching 65,000, with now more than 2,600 deaths from COVID 19.
