NE Ga police blotter: Athens duo sentenced for DC riot, double-murder suspect arrested in Hartwell

An Athens man was sentenced this week in Washington: Noland Kidd gets 45 days in prison for his role in last year’s January 6 riot at the US Capitol. Kidd was arrested last June. His girlfriend, Savannah McDonald, gets 21 days for her part in last year’s uprising.

A GBI investigation that began last year continues in Athens, with allegations of guards smuggling contraband into the Athens-Clarke County jail.

A driver is killed and a passenger injured in a crash on Highway 129 in Jackson County. The Georgia State Patrol says Mario Aldaco-Negrete was 37 years old, from Gainesville. He was killed in a head-on collision with a truck that crossed a center line. That truck was driven by a 41 year-old man from Jefferson. He was treated at a hospital in Gainesville for what were described as non life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol investigation is ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Office in Hartwell is investigating a double-homicide: 26 year-old Jerece Teasley and 25 year-old Alexius Spencer were shot and killed at a home in Hart County. A suspect has been arrested and charged: Maurice Norwood is 59 years old, from Hartwell. There is still no word on a motive for the murders. The GBI is in on the ongoing investigation.
