NE Ga police blotter includes fatal fire in Athens

The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department will investigate the Thanksgiving weekend fire that claimed the life of a 53 year-old Athens man: Darrell Smith died in the blaze that burned a storage building in Stonehenge.

The Sheriff’s Office in Watkinsville says scammers are again at work: the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office says it has not been and does not make calls requesting payments for failure to appear warrants.

A Danielsville man will spend 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from last year’s death of state Department of Natural Resources Captain Stan Elrod. 32-year old Arvil Hamons was sentenced in Madison County Superior Court. Elrod was hit by a vehicle driven by Hamons on Hunt Road in Danielsville in September of 2020. Hamons was charged with counts that included DUI and vehicular homicide.

Police in Elberton say a call about a domestic disturbance led to the arrest of a man on charges of false imprisonment: 53 year-old Terry Woodall has posted bond and been released from the Elbert County Detention Center.

The mother of an 8 year-old girl Gwinnett County girl whose body was found last week in Dekalb County is now facing more serious charges. Prosecutors say Kimberly Hall told police that her daughter Amari had disappeared from the motel where the pair were staying. The autistic child’s body was found six days ago. Hall is now charged with felony murder; her girlfriend is also facing charges.
