The Oconee County Planning Commission, in a 6-3 vote last night in Watkinsville, recommended against a rezoning request that would clear the way for construction of a controversial development that would be anchored by a Publix grocery store. The final decision on the plan for Mars Hill Road-Oconee Connector area rests with Oconee County Commissioners, who next meet next week.
Athens-Clarke County Commissioners have two meetings on today’s calendar, the first at 5 o’clock this afternoon and the second at 6 this evening: the 5 o’clock meeting is an executive session and is closed to the public; the 6 o’clock session will stream live on the Athens-Clarke County government’s YouTube Channel.

The Madison County School Board is interviewing applicants this week in Danielsville, meeting with candidates to be the next principal at Madison County High School, a replacement for departing principal George Bullock.
