We have today the name of the man whose body was pulled out of the Oconee River off North Avenue earlier this month: Anthony Millsap was 35 years old, from Athens. An autopsy confirms cause of death as drowning.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says it has received reports of multiple automobile break-ins in Hull. Cars outside homes off Highways 72 and 106 have been targeted.
Governor Brian Kemp appoints a special committee to look into whether RC Oglesby should be removed from his seat as a Hart County Commissioner. Oglesby and several of his family members have been indicted on racketeering charges. The indictment charges Oglesby with theft, alleging he stole from a Walmart in Hartwell.
A Gainesville man is in the Hall County jail after allegedly shooting and wounding his wife: 43 year-old Steven Turner faces charges that include aggravated assault. His wife was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with what were described as non life-threatening injuries.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says a Gainesville man has been arrested after allegedly using a machete in an attack on another man: 31 year-old Jody Brown was arrested after the altercation at a home in north Hall. Injuries to the victim were described as non life-threatening.
The Sheriff’s Office in Dahlonega says the investigation continues after the discovery of thousands of pieces of mail said to have been stolen from five counties across northeast Georgia. The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office says the mail was taken from Lumpkin, Hall, White, Habersham, and Union counties. Sheriff Stacy Jarrard says there will be an attempt to return the mail to the victims. A man from Habersham County has been arrested and charged in the thefts: Kristofer Beasley is 26 years old, from Clarkesville.
