Athens is considered the best college town in the south: that’s according to one popular magazine. Southern Living magazine gives the title to the Classic City in its April issue, which looked at 20 cities in compiling its rankings. Athens came in second behind Charleston for the south’s best city overall.

Athens Georgia, “The Classic City” that has quickly become one of the most beloved destinations, has been named ‘The South’s Best College Town 2022′ by Southern Living. Recognized for its vibrant dining scene and incredible live music, Athens was distinguished by the magazine’s readers as the top destination choice.
“We are so excited to see Athens top Southern Living’s list of the best college towns this year,” said Hannah Smith, director of marketing and communications for Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Our community teems with creative energy, and with this accolade, we look forward to welcoming more visitors to experience the wide variety of independent, forward-thinking restaurants and local shops that have put us on the map.”
In addition to ‘The South’s Best College Town 2022,’ Athens favorite Creature Comforts Brewing Co. was named on ‘The South’s Best Breweries 2022′ list. Located in downtown Athens, the brewery is a popular stop on the Athens Beer Trail and features an expansive outdoor patio, tasting room and retail shop.
