'The Jetsons' gets live-action film starring Jim Carrey

We’re only about 36 years away from the “future” as imagined by George Jetson, and we still don’t have the flying cars. But that isn’t stopping George, Jane, Judy and Elroy from zooming onto the big screen.

Warner Bros. told its shareholders this week that they’ve signed Jim Carrey to star in the film, People magazine reported.

It’s been a long time coming.

Variety reported in October 2025 that the “Ace Ventura” actor was in talks for the film, with Colin Trevorrow and Joe Epstein tapped to direct and write.

The letter to shareholders read, “Beyond 2027, the slate will continue to leverage iconic intellectual property, including the theatrical event film Aegon’s Conquest from the Game of Thrones universe, the next installment of The Matrix, the next Batman film, and a live-action Jetsons film starring Jim Carrey.”

No details were provided about the project.

IGN reported Carrey had contemplated retiring after his stint in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2″ as Dr. Robotnik, but he appeared in " Sonic the Hedgehog 3″ and will appear in the fourth film in the series, which, according to IMDb, is in post-production.

“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch,” Carrey said. “And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”

“The Jetsons” first aired starting in 1962 and was revived several times, People reported. It showed viewers what could have been possible, 100 years later, in the year 2062. A cartoon film was released in theaters in 1990 called “Jetsons: The Movie.”

Carrey is also known for his role as The Grinch, and a sequel has been teased by director Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.
