Keanu Reeves auctioning 15-minute Zoom call to benefit Idaho children’s cancer charity

An Idaho-based children’s cancer charity has added a most excellent offering to its online fundraising auction, courtesy of actor Keanu Reeves.

According to KTVB, the novel coronavirus pandemic forced Camp Rainbow Gold to cancel its largest annual fundraiser, the Share Your Heart Ball, with just two days’ notice, and Reeves’ philanthropy could certainly help fill the financial void.

“We quickly realized we wouldn’t be the only ones moving our fundraiser to an online auction,” Elizabeth Lizberg, the nonprofit camp’s executive director, said in a prepared statment. “We also realized after months at home, people are craving connections and experiences that are safe but fulfilling.”

In turn, bidders can vie for their chance at 15 uninterrupted minutes of video call connectivity with “The Matrix” and “John Wick” star in which Reeves “will share a glass of wine, tell stories, answer questions or even teach a few karate moves,” according to a press release from the organization.

Reeves, whose sister battled leukemia, has reportedly quietly supported cancer charities via his time and money for years, KTVB reported.

According to The Hollywood Reprter, other celebrity names participating in the virtual auction include former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke, who will perform a 15-minute private Zoom concert, and voice actor Rob Paulsen, who will perform some of his characters from Jimmy Neutron to Pinky and the Brain while also donating memorabilia and a recorded voicemail message.

The bidding closes June 22.
