WILMINGTON, Del. — A woman in Delaware won the lottery twice in one week and won $400,000. She claimed the winning prizes on the same day.
According to a news release from the Delaware Lottery, a 70-year-old woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, won two-six figure prizes in a week totaling about $400,000. She claimed the winning prizes, however, on the same day on Oct. 20.
The Delaware News Journal reported that the woman bought two $100K Ultimate Cash Instant Game tickets from a gas station near Newark, Delaware. One of those tickets was a winner. It was the biggest win since she began playing the lottery about seven years ago.
According to The Associated Press, the woman picked up her winnings from the Delaware lottery headquarters with a friend in Dover, Delaware. On her way home, she bought three Serious Money tickets to celebrate. One of those tickets was also a winner and she got $300,000.
“My best friend was the first person I told about winning the $100,000 top prize, and she came with me to claim it,” the woman said in the news release. “When I scratched the $300,000 winning Serious Money ticket later in the day, we just sat there in disbelief. It was absolute insanity.”
After the second win, the two women went back to the lottery headquarters the same day and brought her total to $400,000, according to Delaware Lottery.
“Congratulations to this lucky player on her unique double win,” said Helene Keeley, Acting Director of the Delaware Lottery in the news release. “It’s great to see our players bring home six-figure prizes, and Instant Games continue to surprise and delight players throughout the state.”
According to the AP, the woman plans to put the money towards her retirement fund.
